Agriculture is the lifeline of socio-economic status of the state of West Bengal where 96 per cent of the farming community is small & marginal. With a view to encourage our farm families and to impart social security in their old age, Govt. of West Bengal has introduced West Bengal Farmers Old Age Pension (WBFOAP) scheme during 1980 as a mark of appreciation and honour the farming community who are responsible for bringing the state agriculture production and productivity to a remarkable position.
No. of Pensioners and Amount of Assistance Given to the Pensioners
Up to 2017-18 total 69.440 nos. beneficiary aged sixty or above got this pension @ Rs. 750/- per month.
But Government has decided to bring more no. of farmers under this scheme as well as realized to increase the pension money for their better livelihood. From 2018-19 total no. of pensioners are increased to one lakh (under Directorate of Agriculture – 98,500 nos. and Directorate of Sericulture – 1500 nos.) with increased pension amount of Rs.1000/- per month
